Share

he town of Smithville, Missouri has been left in mourning after a drunk driving car crash took the life of a five-year old girl in late June 2018. Little Macklyn Lucas was fatally injured in a wreck caused by her mother, who had been drinking before getting behind the wheel. Authorities report Samantha Jones, Macklyn’s mother, swerved off the road around 9:30 PM on Sunday, June 24th and collided with an electrical pole at a high speed. She was arrested with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level of 0.186, more than twice the legal limit.

Macklyn was always a smiling, friendly face wherever she went in Smithville, earning a sort of local celebrity status. Many people called her the “Princess of Smithville” for the way she cared about and seem to know everyone, despite her young age.

To remember Macklyn as the amazing girl she was for everyone, the town is coming together to raise money for her father. At least two GoFundMe campaigns have been started so far to direct charitable funds towards the Lucas family. Casi Joy, a famous musical artist featured on The Voice, is a family friend of the Lucas’ and used to sing with Macklyn at some of her shows. She is also helping spread the memory of the little girl as a ball of sunshine beloved by all of Smithville.
