Former Lee's Summit youth soccer coach admits secretly videotaping players

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. – A former Lee’s Summit youth soccer coach admitted Wednesday that he secretlyvideotaped team members while the girls changed clothes in a bedroom at his home.

Joel D. White, 40, pleaded guilty in federal court in Kansas City to attempting to produce child pornography.

White coached girls soccer teams in the under-12 and under-15 age divisions through the Lee’s Summit Soccer Association.

He admitted that he secretly taped girls 10 to 15 times from May through October 2012 when the girls were 11 and 12 years old. He also admitted touching one girl on the breast with his hand and mouth, and recording the actions, while she slept at his residence.

According to federal prosecutors, video footage shows him setting up and removing the camera. In one video, he looked into the camera and gave himself two “thumbs-up,” authorities said.

Authorities uncovered the recordings during a 2013 theft investigation in Colorado, where White was attending a World Cup qualifying game. After he was accused of stealing merchandise from the stadium, police searched his belongings and hotel room. They found stolen items, then searched his computer to see if he had been trying to sell them on Craigslist.

After seeing a video of a girl changing clothes in what appeared to be White’s home in Missouri, Colorado authorities notified Lee’s Summit police.

A sentencing date will be set later. (This story was posted at
